EPDP Visits Burgos Wind Farm in Ilocos
On 25 October 2017, select EPDP fellows and staff, joined by representatives from the Philippine Competition Commission, visited the Burgos Wind Project in Ilocos Norte to learn more about the project's operations and maintenance. Tagged as the largest in Southeast Asia, the wind project generates 370 GWh of electricity annually and can power 200,000 households with its 50 3-MW turbines. Moreover, the project displaces 200,000 tons of carbon emission per annum.

EPDP visits EWC liquified natural gas terminal in Pagbilao
On 26 July 2017, EPDP fellows and staff visited Energy World Corporation’s liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal in Pagbilao, Quezon Province. EPDP was generously invited by EWC and warmly welcomed by Project Director Mr. Wong Kin Pok and Project Coordinator Mr. John Anderson, who gave the group an overview of the project. They shared EWC’s focus of bringing LNG to Asia, their future plans and current developments, and their vision for LNG in the Philippines.

EPDP holds Research-Policy Workshop to refine research for GPH needs
On 9-10 June 2017, the EPDP Research-Policy Workshop was held at Hotel Kimberly in Tagaytay City. Day 1 of the workshop was alloted for a peer review session where EPDP’s research fellows presented their ongoing studies. Other fellows and invited external reviewers provided their input on the data requirements, processes and usefulness of the presented studies. These comments will be taken into consideration to strengthen EPDP’s research initiatives.

EPDP joins development of energy-related Senate Bills
Senate Committee on Energy Chairperson Senator Sherwin Gatchalian invited EPDP earlier this year to provide input in developing two Senate Bills he authored: SB 1290 Philippine Energy Research and Policy Development Institute Act of 2016 and SB 1308 or Energy Procurement Act of 2016. Since then, EPDP has been working closely with Senator Gatchalian’s Office, offering technical advice and suggestions on the bills as well as appearing in the first Senate Hearings for both bills.

EPDP meets with the Philippine Competition Commission, April 2017
On 19 April 2017, EPDP met with representatives from the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC)—Chairman Arsenio Balisacan, Commissioner Stella Quimbo and Atty. Melbourne Pana—to explore collaborations to contribute to the country’s energy sector. The discussion is part of EPDP’s continuing policy engagement with the government and will help EPDP provide relevant and enriching policy and development support to energy stakeholders and partners.

EPDP partnership with NEDA continues
With the objective of continuing and strengthening support to the national government in energy policy and development, EPDP met with Socioeconomic Planning Secretary and NEDA Director-General Ernesto Pernia and some of his staff members on 7 April 2017. The EPDP team, led by Program Director Dr. Majah Ravago, and the group from NEDA discussed EPDP’s progress and milestones and identified areas of collaboration.
